A Swiss company, iscoord, is the first IBM business partner to receive certification ensuring compatibility between a software-based IP phone and the System i IP Telephony solution jointly offered by IBM and 3Com. In late December, iscoord announced it successfully completed interoperability testing between its isphone and 3Com’s VCX platform, which is the basis for the System i IP Telephony Solution that became available last year. The testing was conducted as part of 3Com’s Open Network Program, and iscoord received the 3Com Solution Validated certification for its efforts. The isphone was written in Java and uses the session initiation protocol (SIP) standard to communicate with voice over IP (VoIP) solutions such as the IBM-3Com offerings. The software is designed to be used with a USB headset, supports functions like speed dial, conference calling, and recording-on-demand, and integrates with other communication products, such as Lotus Sametime and Notes. Markus Sieger, CEO of iscoord, says his company’s is-phone is the industry’s first soft phone that is simultaneously integrated with IBM’s Lotus Unified Communication solutions and certified by 3Com. “We believe that interoperability with 3Com IP telephony for IBM System i gives our clients a clear choice today and in the future,” he says.
