Aerospace Manufacturer Taps Global for Reporting Tools

Teledyne Technologies, a $1.4 billion manufacturer of electronic components for the aerospace industry, has rolled out Global Software‘s Spreadsheet Server for analyzing data in its i5/OS- and Windows-based ERP systems. Teledyne, which is based in Thousand Oaks, California, deployed Spreadsheet Server to make it easier for employees to work with General Ledger data stored in its ERP XA (formerly MAPICS) and the Windows-based ERP Syteline applications from Infor. Spreadsheet Server allows users to view and update data from ERP systems within the friendly confines of Microsoft Excel. Ease-of-use is the main benefit of Spreadsheet Server. Without the product, customers would probably continue to pay programmers to write reports in the green-screen environment. The global deployment of Spreadsheet Server was smooth, says William Read, group controller of the defense electronics division at Teledyne. “We were able to roll out Spreadsheet Server for use with Infor to users distributed at more than 12 sites across the U.S. and Scotland in less than two weeks and without significant IT involvement,” Read says. Global, which is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, introduced support for ERP XA and ERP Syteline less than a year ago; see “Global Supports Infor ERP XA and SyteLine with Spreadsheet Server”.
