i OS trucking software developer Innovative Computing is ready. Ready for IBM i 6.1 and ready for the new laws governing electronic transmission of tax information to the IRS. The Oklahoma company is also gearing up for a new release of Innovative Enterprise Software (IES)in ’09. To support i 6.1, Innovative last month unveiled IES R8V02M03. The new version brings certification for I 6.1 as well as changes needed to support the latest operating system. The new version also brings changes to handling of W2 and 1099 forms. As of December 1, the IRS is requiring companies to phase out paper-based forms if they have more than 250 employees. The end-of-year update from Innovative implements changes to support this new law. However, Innovative understands that companies may still want to print W-2 or 1099 forms for some employees, so the new version of IES gives IT managers the capability to print them among other tax-related forms enhancements. The end-of-year update is available now through January 15, at which point Innovative will begin charging customers for the update. Customers that utilize Innovative’s software as a service (SaaS)-based offerings, IES Access and Access Plus, will have the updates applied automatically. Innovative also provided a preview for IES Release 9, which is due out in late spring of 2009. The new release will bundle many of the new tools that Innovative has provided to its user community over the last year, including enhancements related to e-mail, order entry, hazmat reporting, FlexPay, FlexFuel, mobile communications, and fuel purchasing.
