Hospitals and doctor’s offices that use CPU Medical Management Systems‘ i OS-based medical billing and revenue cycle management software, MED/FM, were given a new option for healthcare EDI last month when CPU struck a deal with Gateway EDI, a provider of electronic data interchange solutions for the healthcare industry. MED/FM is a comprehensive practice management solution for medical practices and medical billing services that’s used by more than 10,000 doctors across the country. The software, which runs exclusively on i OS (it’s also available as a service over the Internet), helps to automate a range of common healthcare tasks, including patient registration, scheduling, generation of claims and statements, collections, contract management, and financial reporting. By partnering with Gateway EDI (GEDI), CPU hopes to give its customers another option for claims processing. GEDI’s service enables customers to send claims forms electronically, which can make communicating with insurance companies or health plan administrators (like Medicare) more efficient. CPU highlighted GEDI’s customer service as a differentiator from other healthcare EDI offerings. “We partnered with Gateway EDI because we recognize the value of customer service,” said Michael Stringer, president and CEO of CPU, which is based in San Diego, California. GEDI, which is based in St. Louis, Missouri, was looking for partners to help its westward expansion. “We recognize that there is some great potential in the western states and we would be proud to be affiliated with many of the organizations located there,” said Charlotte Martin, president and chief operating officer of GEDI.
