Tell COMMON Europe What Your Top Concerns Are
April 19, 2010 Timothy Prickett Morgan
A new Power Systems development cycle is starting with the delivery of i 7.1 and the expectation that IBM will deliver another new version, hopefully called something sensible like Power OS 8.1, in two more years means now is the time to start telling Big Blue what you need and what you want in the platform. COMMON Europe, the European IBM midrange user group, is doing its part by gathering up the top concerns that OS/400 and i shops. The way it works, COMMON Europe has 37 initial top concerns that customers have, and it wants input from the user community to rank the 37 and whittle it down to 15 that it can hand to Big Blue on a To-Do List. You can participate in the survey here and kick off the process. The survey is available in multiple languages and although it is being administered by COMMON Europe, the intent is to poll the entire globe, not just European shops. Those who attend the annual COMMON Europe Conference from June 12 through 15 in Shakespeare’s hometown of Statford-on-Avon in England will be allowed to vote on the concerns as well. A preliminary report on the Top Concerns will be delivered during the opening session, based on the Web poll data. Eventually, COMMON Europe will put out a report as it did last year, which we will tell you all about once we get our greedy little hands on it. Those voters on the Web-based Top Concerns poll are eligible to win one of four iPods COMMON Europe is giving away. But you should do it even if there was no prize. This is your platform, and IBM needs to hear what you have to say. COMMON Europe is also looking for people to nominate end users and business partners for the best innovations on the Power Systems platform. So don’t be shy. Have your boss nominate you if you have some decent stuff you’ve done so you can go to the Globe Theatre. Voting for the Innovation Award 2010 is open until May 1.
