CoralTree Delivers New GUI for Web Framework

CoralTree Systems will be showcasing the new GUI design tool for its Renaissance IBM i Web application development at the Power Shift event being held today in the U.K. The new GUI design tool builds off CoralTree’s recent adoption of the jQuery JavaScript library, and will allow developers to create Web interfaces by dragging and dropping user interface elements from a design palette. Renaissance is an IBM i Web application development framework that marries IBM‘s CGIDEV2 with modern Web application technology. The software, which is available for free under an open source license, builds on the robust RPG integration technology of CGIDEV2 by surrounding it with session management, security, logging, and other components that are necessary for building secure and manageable Web applications. CoralTree recently gave Renaissance a big shot in the arm when it added support for jQuery, the popular open source JavaScript library. Support for jQuery provided a foundation for building standards-based AJAX applications that are modern, modular, and responsive.
The new Renaissance Graphical Designer (RGD) builds on the previous support for jQuery, and makes it easier for users to develop modern interfaces for Renaissance applications. RGD enables users to create screens by dragging and dropping icons from the palette and the application data repository, CoralTree says. “This latest addition to the Framework builds on the groundwork we completed earlier this year with the integration of jQuery,” says CoralTree technical director Kevin Turner. “We are hopeful that this new tool will encourage a new generation of users to embrace the Framework, and provide a quantum leap forwards in the ease with which RPG programmers can produce world class browser-fronted applications.” CoralTree will be demonstrating Renaissance at Power Shift, a one-day IBM i industry event being held today in Manchester, England. The event, which features 17 sessions from 12 speakers, is the “mega-event of the year,” says System iNetwork, which is co-sponsoring the event with the Northern iSeries User Group (NiSUG).
