Profound Logic showcased its RPG Open Access (RPG OA) technology during the recent mobile application development challenge held during National iSystems User Group‘s 2012 International Power event in London. NiSUG challenged IBM i tool vendors to use their wares to quickly develop the most full-featured mobile application they could as part of the “App-i-Days Mobile Application Showcase” that was held on the expo floor during the recent 2012 International Power event. The vendors, presented with a DB2 for i database and a set of minimum requirement, unleashed their developers and their creativity. Profound Logic, which was represented by its UK business partner Logicmate, tackled the challenge with Profound UI, its tool that utilizes IBM‘s RPG OA technology to convert native DDS screens into rich Web interfaces without requiring knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, or AJAX. Logicmate director Nigel Lothian whipped up two submissions for the App-i-Days, including a Web-based app that could run on the iPhone and the iPad, and a native Android app designed to run on the latest Galaxy tablet from Samsung. Both of the apps could utilize the devices’ cameras, and supported signature capture capabilities, thanks to the use of the free PhoneGap framework from the Apache organization. Lothian says his two mobile apps impressed show attendees. “Some visitors at the event didn’t realize how easy it is to develop mobile apps using a tool like Profound UI,” Lothian says. “After seeing our demonstration, a number of visitors expressed that they would now be able to make the case for developing mobile applications in their business using the Profound UI mobile applications as an example.” RELATED STORY Profound Touts Native Modernization Chops in Code Shoot Out
