  • Indigo Launches IBM i-Based Warehouse Management System

    March 19, 2013 Alex Woodie

The English software firm Indigo Software Ltd. this week will launch Indigo WMS for IBM i, a new warehouse management system designed to automate many aspects of running a warehouse. Indigo says its new solution brings time-saving features out of the box, including wireless integration and voice-enabled picking, and will integrate easily with popular IBM i-based ERP systems.

Indigo has been developing custom IBM i software packages for European customers for 33 years. The company has an extensive history with the old JBA System21 product, which was widely deployed in the UK and is currently owned by Infor.

Indigo developed a WMS specifically for System21 users called RealTime. That product became the basis for the new WMS for IBM i, which is designed to work with other popular IBM i-based ERP systems from Infor, including BPCS, MAPICS, and M3, as well as SAP ‘s Business Suite, which also has a considerable installed base on IBM‘s midrange server.

The new WMS delivers functionality for many aspects of warehouse operations, including inbound receiving and returns management; locating goods and managing replenishment; employee scheduling and work management; demand fulfillment and load assembly; and outbound management, including labeling and ASN (advanced ship notice) generation.

The new product is designed to work with wireless hand-held barcode scanners (Intermec is an Indigo partner), and it also has voice-enabled picking built into it. Simply put, Indigo has utilized its considerable IBM i experience to build a new WMS that automates the distribution of goods in most industries.

Indigo announced WMS for IBM i on its website last week, and says it plans to showcase the new software at a logistics conference, the IMHX Exhibition, that’s being held in Birmingham this week.

“We’re thrilled to be able to open up our RealTime software to other users of ERP with Indigo WMS for IBM i,” states Indigo managing director Peter McLane in a press release. “Our current customers such as Regatta, Dairy Crest, Puma, and Glen Dimplex will tell you what a marked difference RealTime has made to their business productivity and efficiency. This customer feedback was instrumental to our strategy of enhancing our WMS technologies to make it available to all businesses running their applications on IBM i.”
