IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 20, Numbers 50 And 51
January 7, 2019 Doug Bidwell
The Four Hundred was on hiatus for the last two weeks of December, so this week we wrap up the final 2018 editions of the IBM i PTF Guide. We will be picking up with 2019 in next week’s issue of the newsletter.
In Volume 20, Number 50, of the IBM i PTF Guide, we learn about the new release of RDi – check the link in the guide for more and also check out this story that ran in The Four Hundred a few weeks ago. There were also new HIPER and Security group PTFs that week (December 15), as well as another release of MGTools. New links in the IBM i PTF Guide that week included:
- HMC – HMC 5250 Console Errors
- IMPF – CPYTOIMPF and CPYFRMIMPF examples
- USB – USB Attached Flash Drives Support at IBM i V7R1 and above for Save/Restore/Copy Operations
An here is this tip: for V7R3 5250 console, either Client Access or Access client can be used for HMCs, LAN Console only works with ACS.
In Volume 20, Number 51, we find that all the required Spectre-Meltdown PTFs are included in the Security Group PTF.
We also have a Security Bulletin, which outlines multiple vulnerabilities in Node.js that affect IBM i. This is outlined in SI68770, which is the same PTF for IBM i V7R3, V7R2, and V7R1, and which addresses:
- CVE-2018-12122
- CVE-2018-12121
- CVE-2018-12120
- CVE-2018-12123
- CVE-2018-12116
Additional information about this Node.js issue can be found at this link.
Now, one more thing: Between May 19 and 22 next year, the POWERUp19 conference, formerly known as the COMMON conference, is heading to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. With over 300 sessions for Power Systems and IBM i education, you can keep your skills up-to-date by creating a custom schedule based on your specific needs. Find out more details at https://www.common.org/events/powerup/.
The Guide at a glance: There are no new defectives this week (12/22/18), and we are still going for a new record! Here is the defective PTF rundown, which is the last defective for each release:
