IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 22, Number 2
January 15, 2020 Doug Bidwell
As you well know, there is an issue with LPARs that are hanging on machines that have the latest Technology Refreshes applied to IBM i 7.3 and IBM i 7.4 in cases where the Hardware Management Console (HMC) is not managing the partitions. The details of the issue with the Technology Refreshes are outlined in APAR MA48101, and what it means is that a guest partition created with Virtual Partition Manager (VPM) inside SST or Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM) will hang on IPL after the apply of the TRs. This gets real elaborate, so we strongly suggest you review the document at this link before proceeding.
As expected, IBM has issued a new resave for 7.3, I-base-J. The only solution to prevent the hang condition for VPM managed guest partitions is to first slip the LIC (licensed internal code) with J, then restore from backup, then load and apply latest Cume and groups. If none of this makes sense, contact me at tuner@dlbassoc.com and we can go over it.
In other PTF news, there is a new HTTP Server Group for IBM i 7.2 and 7.3. And MCH1001 Received using some BRMS commands after BRMS PTF Installation; see this link for the info relating to IBM i 7.4, 7.3, and 7.2 and to get the fixing PTF. Also, there is updated microcode (also known as firmware) for Machine-Type Model: 9008-22L; 9009-22A; 9009-41A; 9009-42A; 9223-22H; 9223-42H. System Firmware Level: VL940_034. See the link on “Links” worksheet for more on that.

Hi Doug,
You may already be aware of this, but the link doesn’t work for MCH0001 received when using some BRMS commands after applying a new BRMS PTF. All I get is a 400 Bad Request.
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/1168402?myns=ibmi&mynp=OCSSTS2D&mynp=OCSS9QQS&mync=E&cm_sp=ibmi-_-OCSSTS2D-OCSS9QQS-_-E
I had the same issue with a recent IBM My Notifications:
Users may receive MCH1001 “Attempt to use permanent system object (Q1A*) without authority”,
after installing one of the following PTFs:
V7R2. 5770BR1 – SI71132
V7R3. 5770BR1 – SI71133
V7R4. 5770BR1 – SI71134
That same link was provided, with the same 400 Bad Request result.
Regards,
Jozsef
