The pages of the calendar keep turning as we grind our way through this year and slip into September. As we head into the homestretch of 2021, the news cycle seems to be picking up and we have the fall conference season to look forward to, and while many events remain virtual, it’s still a great way to link up with colleagues and keep up with the latest around the industry. We’re also seeing things look up for IBM, as you’ll note in some of our Top Stories below, with the exception of some trouble in Texas. Read on to …

Summer is winding down and the kids are heading back to school, but even as the seasons change, a return to normalcy is not in the forecast as the world continues to grapple with the pandemic. Hybrid working environments are becoming the norm for some as everyone does their best to adapt, which is something we also see in our Calendar below where offering options of virtual and in-person learning are becoming common. (No pun intended.) Cloud and cybersecurity continue to be hot topics on our Top Stories list and don’t look to be dropping from the news cycle anytime …

The biggest computing news that happened while IT Jungle was on holiday last week was the REvil ransomware attack, which infected thousands of victims in at least 17 countries. The attack was largely through firms that remotely manage IT infrastructure for multiple customers, a scary thought for our IBM i ecosystem. We often site stories here in Monitor about ransomware and other types of cybercrime, and we hope your organization is taking steps to protect its precious data and systems. Our top story this week looks at why ransomware is becoming so prevalent, and don’t miss our own Alex Woodie’s …

Here in southern California, where a couple of the IT Jungle crew reside, we are in the throes of May Gray, soon to be followed by the equally depressing June Gloom. It’s our own weird little season between Spring and Summer marked by overcast mornings followed by a peek of sunshine if you’re far enough from the coast. The current news cycle is reminiscent of the May Gray/June Gloom with a mix of ho-hum but a glimmer of what we have to look forward to. Read on for the latest industry and related news, and don’t forget to check out …

One of our favorite readers emailed recently to share the results of his Google alerts. He is on the lookout for mentions of the “IBM i” and we wanted to let us know it would be a pretty short list some days if it weren’t for IT Jungle. A compliment for sure because we are quite proud of the work we do here to keep you informed about our little ecosystem, but also a little sad since we would also like to see more voices talking about this robust and vibrant platform. For Monitor, we also have trouble finding other …

The winds of change are blowing. Well, it might be more correct to call is a slight breeze, but the fact is that we are starting to see a slow rebound from the pandemic.
