One AURA Equipements product you will be hearing about more in the future is SQLiPlug, a piece of software that allows IBM i applications to access external databases in real time. SQLiPlug is not a new product, and it hasn’t been enhanced lately. But according to AURA Equipements CEO Sylvain Rubele, AURA will be doing a lot of work with SQLiPlug in the future, as the company looks to enable database access to and from the IBM i server. SQLiPlug runs the on IBM i server and facilitates a direct connection between DB2 for i and third-party databases, such as Oracle 11g, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MS Access, Sybase, and Progress‘ database. The software facilitates direct access to external database tables and procedures through read, insert, update, delete, and call methods, explains AURA product manager Wassel Guerbaa. “When a query is run on the IBM i database, SQLiPlug identifies the information which is on the remote database, performs the corresponding request on it, and returns the results,” Guerbaa tells IT Jungle via email. AURA has been active in the database connector market recently. In January, the company launched three new database connectors in Launcher/400 that enables users to grab and reformat data sitting on Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases. Launcher/400 was originally developed to enable users to access DB2 for i data and then transform it into other formats, such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PDFs, or distribute them via email or fax. “SQLiPlug fits into the strategy of opening IBM i to the main databases of the market, like the new database connectors of Launcher/400,” Guerbaa says.
