SEQUEL Updates Web Interface of BI Product

SEQUEL Software says users can get one-click access to DB2/400 data with the update to its business intelligence (BI) tool’s Web-based interface. The Help/Systems subsidiary says users will find the new Explorer component that ships in Web Interface version 10 more intuitive and easier to use. It should also streamline access to existing reports, as well as DB2/400 data. SEQUEL Software launched its Web Interface offering three years ago to provide users with the same level of graphical and drill-down capabilities from a Web browser that SEQUEL Software had provided for years through its thick-client Windows interface. The add-on basically allows users to create customizable dashboards composed of elements such as pie charts, histograms, and text. The version 10 release of Web Interface contains a new component called Explorer that offers “richer interaction” with SEQUEL objects like views and dashboards, SEQUEL Software says. Views and dashboards are two types of consumables that are generated by the company’s powerful suite of reporting and BI software for IBM i, called SEQUEL. In addition to viewing pre-made reports and dashboards, the new SEQUEL Explorer lets users do things such as: send data as email attachments; execute drill-down functions; and perform graphing functions. The software also lets users view SEQUEL host or client reports, and submit host reports, views, and tables for batch processing, the vendor says. The SEQUEL Web Interface 10.0 provides single-click access to database data from Power Systems (System i, iSeries, AS/400) running IBM i. Its new Explorer offers a friendly, interactive, and intuitive interface for end users. SEQUEL also spruced up its GUI navigation and search capabilities with Web Interface 10. The vendor says Explorer allows users to search for objects, libraries, and categories. Wildcard characters are also supported. The new software also allows users to save recent searches, create bookmarks to SEQUEL objects, and display lists of objects they’ve recently used. SEQUEL is a multi-purpose IBM i utility that excels at executing queries and generating reports from DB2/400 as well as other relational databases, like SQL Server and MySQL. The software uses a special version of the SQL syntax that its owners say is more familiar to users and easier to use than the standard SQL syntax. In addition to querying databases, SEQUEL enables users to create Web-based dashboards and entire executive information systems (EIS). The vendor’s ViewPoint software is a Windows client, while the Web Interface provides similar capabilities from a Web browser.
