SafeData Now Protects AIX Data, Too

Companies that rely on SafeData to keep their System i and Windows backups safe can now use its online storage and disaster recovery offering for their AIX backups, too. The announcement leaves Linux as the only Power Systems operating system not supported by the SafeData/DR offering. Earlier this month, SafeData announced support for IBM‘s AIX operating system with its SafeData/DR online vaulting offering, which is powered by Seagate ‘s i365 (formerly EVault) agent-based data replication technology. That expands to three the number of operating systems supported by SafeData, including i OS and Windows. SafeData president Peter Briggs explained the evolution of the company’s offering. “We started originally supporting the IBM iSeries environment, and then developed a Windows recovery solution using VMware,” he states in the announcement. “Now, with the latest IBM blade technology, we can recover data and systems for the AIX platform as well.” The Warwick, Rhode Island, company launched its managed DR services for System i and Windows servers in 2005. Since then, the company has grown quickly, doubling the number of customers in both 2006 and again last year. Last September, the company introduced fully managed high availability services as part of its SafeData/HA offering, which utilizes technology from Vision Solutions.
