IBM i shops that have selected IntelliChief as their document and content management standard will soon be using IBM technology if they choose to use IntelliChief’s optical character recognition (OCR) software, called IntelliChief Capture Enterprise. In early August, IntelliChief announced that it has entered into an agreement with IBM to use its OCR functionality with IntelliChief Capture Enterprise. OCR technology eliminates the need for humans to enter data by using scanners that read the data from fields in structured and semi-structured forms, as well as some unstructured sources, too. “Offering IntelliChief customers full OCR capabilities enables them to accelerate document process efficiencies by streamlining document indexing and workflow routing,” MichaelRooney, IntelliChief’s vice president of sales and marketing, says in a press release. While IntelliChief didn’t announce what IBM OCR technology it has licensed, it is believed to be Datacap Taskmaster Capture, a Windows-based OCR product that uses multiple recognition engines to extract machine print, handprint, checkbox, and barcode data. Datacap Taskmaster Capture is also sold with IBM’s Content Manager and FileNet solutions, and it’s also commonly used with enterprise content management (ECM) solutions from Documentum and Open Text, and with Microsoft‘s SharePoint. IntelliChief is a newly independent company whose assets used to be owned by Quadrant Software. The IntelliChief component of the business was spun off by Quadrant just prior to Quadrant’s acquisition by Candescent Partners late last year.
