Infor Widens Partnership for BuyDesign Product Configurator

ERP giant Infor has inked a deal with TDCI to expand its sales of the BuyDesign product configurator and sales quoting software to MAPICS shops, among other Infor customer sets, the companies announced last week. BuyDesign is a collection of Windows-based programs designed to streamline the configuration and sales process for ordering and buying customized products. The software is often integrated directly into ERP systems, providing a big boost for sales and order entry personnel, who would otherwise be hampered by the restrictive nature of ERP order entry screens when the customer is making a complicated purchase that involves a lot of variables. BuyDesign, developed and sold by TDCI of Columbus, Ohio, has been used with many IBM i-based ERP systems, including Infor’s MAPICS, BPCS, and PRMS; Oracle JD Edwards World; Friedman‘s Frontier; and TDCI’s own MAC-PAC XE product. In 2008 the company launched an IBM i adapter that makes integration with IBM i ERP systems easier. Infor, the third-largest ERP software company in the world and the biggest player in IBM i ERP, has been a BuyDesign reseller for several years, but primarily for the Windows-based ERP SyteLine product. Now, as part of the expanded agreement with TDCI, Infor will sell BuyDesign as an integrated component within other ERP suites as well, including ERP XA (MAPICS), Infor ERP LN (Baan), Infor ERP SX.enterprise, and Infor Storefront. TDCI president Dan DeMuth said he was “very excited” about the expansion of the relationship with Infor. “We have been working with each of the Infor product groups to integrate BuyDesign into their respective products and to incorporate it into their respective sales plans,” DeMuth says in a press release.
