  • Raz-Lee Bolsters IBM i Security Analysis Tool

    September 21, 2010 Alex Woodie

IBM i security software vendor Raz-Lee Security this month unveiled new capabilities in Visualizer, which it bills as a business intelligence product designed for security purposes. Raz-Lee says that, by expanding the sources of data that can be loaded into Visualizer with version 4, administrators will be better able to stay informed of potential security breeches.

Visualizer has been a core component of the sprawling iSecurity suite for years. The software, which is based on Eclipse and delivered as a Java-based GUI, serves as a sort of data warehouse for collecting information collected by other iSecurity products and coming to conclusions about them.

For the last several years, Visualizer has collected data from several iSecurity products, including Firewall, Raz-Lee’s exit point monitoring and intrusion prevention system (IPS) for IBM i, and Audit, a tool that generates audit reports from the QAUDJRN. The exact configuration will depend on which versions of the product a customer buys: Visualizer for Firewall, which is sold with the iSecurity Prevention pack, or Visualizer for Audit, which is sold with the iSecurity Audit pack.

Raz-Lee announced this month that it has added some new data feeds to Visualizer. For instance, it gets wider support for existing Firewall and Audit feeds, including the capability to consume all log files and queries from these iSecurity components.

Also, the product can now consume application data from AP-Journal, an iSecurity tool that augments IBM i journaling to create a searchable record of all changes made to an IBM i server. The company says Visualizer can also now consume the output of queries which have been run and stored on disk.

Better monitoring of user profiles is also enabled with this release. Raz-Lee says the new capabilities to analyze user profile-related queries add an “essential dimension to the challenge of defining, synchronizing, and managing user profile information, especially in multiple partition environments.”

In the future, Visualizer will be able to analyze data generated by other platforms besides IBM i, Spitz says.

Visualizer 4 is available now. For more information, visit www.razlee.com.
