Attunity Unveils New Data Replication Suite
October 4, 2011 Alex Woodie
Attunity last week unveiled new data replication software that supports most major databases, including DB2/400, DB2 for LUW and z/OS, SQL Server, Oracle‘s database, and NonStop SQL/MP. Called Attunity Replicate, the new software is designed to support an array of data replication tasks, and features a Web-based console that’s intended to simplify setup and management. Attunity developed its new replication software to fit a variety of customer demands, especially as they pertain to moving data to and from Web-based (or “cloud”) sources. The company touts the product’s scalability, as well as its adaptability to handle different replication tasks. Attunity Replicate can replicate entire database schemas, and supports a “snapshot” extract and load option that gives customers the capability to replicate entire databases to their target systems. This option is useful for performing the initial load of a new data store, although it does impact the performance of production systems. Thereafter, customers may choose to use Attunity’s well-regarded log-based change data capture (CDC) technology to replicate only new transactions or database changes as they occur, and to do so without having a large impact on production resources. No software needs to be installed on source or target systems, the company says. The company says each instance of the Replicate Server can support multiple replication tasks, and each task can support multiple database tables. The software provides row-level filtering and supports mapping and data transformations. Data can be replicated across dissimilar platforms and databases, in a one-to-one, many-to-one, or one-to-many manner. Attunity says the product’s setup is simplified through its Web-based console, which sports a “click-2-replicate” feature that guides the user through the configuration process, and is also used to monitor replication tasks. Attunity chairman and CEO Shimon Alon says Attunity Replicate is the first product as part of the company’s new cloud vision. “Attunity Replicate and the file replication technologies we recently added through the RepliWeb acquisition will create a unique portfolio to enable us to accelerate our growth, extend our existing partner relationships and engage new partnerships around big data and cloud computing.” The Burlington, Massachusetts, company acquired RepliWeb in early September for about $8 million. The Coconut Creek, Florida, company developed data replication and file transfer technology that was used by about 1,500 customers around the world. Attunity says the acquisition of RepliWeb, which had about $8 million in revenues last year, will double Attunity’s revenues by the end of 2012.
