MVP Systems Ships JAMS Version 6

MVP Systems Software is now shipping Job Access Management System (JAMS) version 6, a new version of its cross-platform enterprise job scheduler for IBM i and other environments. The new version gives customers better views into the execution of jobs running across their enterprises. JAMS is a .NET product that runs on Windows servers. Most of MVP’s 800 or so customers use the software to manage jobs on Windows servers. However, the software can also be used to control and coordinate jobs executing on IBM i, Unix, Linux, and OpenVMS servers. The company has supported an IBM i agent since 2009. With version 6, JAMS gets several new capabilities, including new intelligent job grouping, consolidated job views, and centralized alerting. The new intelligent job grouping functionality helps customers by streamlining the organization and management of large numbers of jobs. MVP says advanced filtering lets users group and view jobs quickly and easily. The new consolidated job views, meanwhile, provide “a concise, redesigned view of the most commonly used job properties.” The new centralized alerting functionality allows alerts and notifications to be defined once and then deployed globally to specific jobs, setups, or the entire schedule, MVP says. This version also brings something that MVP calls “code-free setups,” which the company says enables common actions such as continuing, failing, and halting, to be applied to any workflow without any code. JAMS customers can also now monitor their Linux and Unix jobs in real time. It’s unclear if this feature will be coming to IBM i as well. Other features in this release include new contextual job menus accessible from anywhere in the GUI, and advanced filtering in the monitor view.
