Electronic Storage Corp. says that its disk-to-disk LaserVault Backup offering is helping IBM i shops in the UK eliminate their reliance on tape and move to a more streamlined backup environment. LaserVault Backup is a software product that’s designed to enable IBM i environments to be backed up and stored on non-IBM i environments, including NAS, SAN, or dedicated appliances, such as the Universal Backup Device (UBD) that Electronic Storage Corp. also sells. This makes it easy to move the data offsite, while maintaining the capability to restore the data to the iSeries quickly when needed. Electronic Storage Corp. is working with the UK-based IBM business partner APSU to provide LaserVault Backup as a service in the UK. According to Robert Poreba, a services support manager at APSU, the software is helping its customers improve their backup processes. “The LaserVault Backup solution provides excellent compression of data and has helped us eliminate the manual process of handling tapes for our clients,” Poreba says in a press release. “This delivers both off-site tape storage and cold-start disaster recovery. LaserVault Backup is integral to this solution and it is ideal for customers for whom an RPO [Recovery Point Objective] of the last backup is acceptable.” RELATED STORIES LaserVault Launches Hybrid Cloud Backup Appliance for IBM i LaserVault Aims for Simplicity with New IBM i Backup Appliance LaserVault Shrinks System i Backups with Data De-Duplication LaserVault Module Helps Users Purge Old Reports from Servers LaserVault Boosts Compliance Efforts with New Audit Log
