10ZiG Doubles Down on Dual-Monitor Setups

Thin client distributor 10ZiG Technology (formerly BOSaNOVA) recently introduced a novel utility that makes it easier to manage dual-monitor setups. Called the Dual Monitor Utility, the software delivers helpful features that allow dual-monitor users to overcome some of the common headaches of managing two monitors connected to the same thin client CPU. The availability of cheap and plentiful LCD screens has sparked a bit of a real-estate boom on the desks of millions of office workers around the globe. Workers were once able to get by with a single, bulky 15-inch CRT screen on their desks. But no longer. Today, workers are clamoring for light and thin LCD monitors. And LCDs are so cheap and plentiful, many workers have started to hook two or more screens to their PCs, which really opens the viewing opportunities and allows users to take in full screens. The multi-monitor trend is being driven by promises of productivity increases, according to 10ZiG president Martin Pladgeman. But in some ways, the promise of productivity gains is offset by difficult in managing the dual-screen setups. “In many instances users are left with limited options and features, not allowing them to achieve the highest level of productivity obtainable,” Pladgeman says. “Our new utility offers enhanced, feature-rich dual monitor capabilities allowing users to achieve the full potential of a dual display environment.” The Dual Monitor Utility allows users to do several things that would otherwise be difficult to accomplish without it. This includes the capability to move windows across multiple displays, and even the capability to maximize windows across multiple displays. It also allows users to mirror the screen of a primary monitor to a secondary monitor–a handy feature for presentations. The utility loads a “smart taskbar” onto the monitors being managed. This allows users to see which applications have been assigned to that particular monitor, making it easier to manage multiple monitors. Users can also customize their display configurations by creating different display profiles for different users. These profiles also cover things like wallpapers and screen savers, 10ZiG says. The Dual Monitor Utility is only available for 10ZiG’s Windows XP and XPe thin clients. For more information, visit www.10zig.com.
