Attachmate Partners with Emirates for Airline App

Attachmate last week announced a partnership with Mercator, the IT division of the Dubai-based airline Emirates Group, that will see Mercator using Attachmate’s terminal emulation software to securely access host systems. Under the partnership, Mercator will use Attachmate’s Reflection for the Web 2008 Airlines Edition to connect to various host systems, including IBM‘s Transaction Processing Facility (TFP) and Airline Control System (ALCS), older Unisys hosts, and z/OS, IBM i, and Unix applications access via 3270, 5250, and VT protocols. Security was one of the main reasons that Mercator chose Attachmate for the project, according to Raajeswaran M, a program manager with Mercator. “We selected Attachmate based on the company’s deep knowledge of airlines’ IT environments and technologies as well as its multi-layered approach to legacy host application security,” Raajeswaran M states in a press release. Attachmate says Mercator expects to expand its partnership to include other Attachmate products, including INFOConnect Enterprise Edition for Airlines and INFOConnect Print and Transaction Router. These products will help Mercator and Emirates as it migrates to the new Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) technology that is being developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to replace the Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) check-in and boarding process that is used today. Attachmate, which has been in the airline business for over 20 years with customers such as Continental Airlines, America West Airlines, and BMI Airlines, achieved CUPPS compliance with the two INFOConnect products about a year ago.
