SunGard Public Sector last month announced the general availability of ONESolution, a new Windows-based suite of applications for local governments and police and fire departments. While SunGard will go forward with ONESolution, which was built in .NET and features the latest Microsoft user interface technology, the company says it’s still committed to selling and supporting its similar line of i/OS-based products–and migrating them to ONESolution.

SunGard PS, which is composed in part of the old HTE company based near Orlando, Florida, sells a range of administrative applications for local governments and schools in the US and the UK.

For years, Microsoft offered connectors with its identity management product that allowed the software to work with AS/400 and S/390 hosts. But with this year’s release of Forefront Identity Manager 2010, the host connectors were left out. SafeData, a provider of hosted backup, recovery, and high availability solutions for i/OS, AIX, and Windows, has been acquired by Data Storage Corp. (DSC), the companies announced yesterday. DSC says it has aggressive plans to bring its current offerings–including online backup and recovery, digital archiving, and e-discovery–to the System i world, as a result of SafeData’s knowledge and experience with the IBM i platform.

That’s because the Cleveland, Ohio, software developer last week announced the general availability of Guest 360, its next-generation PMS, which runs on Windows.

Heartland Community Bank, an Arkansas-based bank with more than $140 million in assets, will implement the SilverLake core banking package from Jack Henry & Associates as the basis for its operations. A Jack Henry partner will host the i/OS-based SilverLake package for Heartland, which will access the software over the Internet.
