Big Blue Offers Interest-Free Financing For IBM i Iron Down Under

The OS/400 and IBM i platform has turned 25 years old, and IBM’s units in Australia and New Zealand are offering special financing to celebrate. In announcement letter A313-099, IBM’s Global Financing unit, which provides leases and rentals to business partners and end users alike, is offering special zero percent interest rate financing on IBM i-based gear over a term of–wait for it–25 months, one for every year that the AS/400 and its progeny have been running applications in the midrange. The deal in New Zealand is structured the same way and is detailed in announcement letter NZ313-099. The financing deals is Australia and New Zealand are dirt simple, which is a rarity for an IT vendor. Take the price of the gear you want to finance and divide it by 24 and that is your monthly payment; then add the first month for free. The financing deal runs from June 19 through December 27, and you have to get credit approval from Global Financing to participate. It can be applied to any entry or midrange Power Systems servers running the IBM i operating system. You have to spend between $15,000 and $1.5 million, in either Kiwi or Aussie dollars. IBM can offer this special financing directly, or it can come through business partners. Power Systems machines with product numbers 9117, 9119, 9125, and 9179 are excluded from this financing deal. These are all high-end boxes. There are no restrictions on the IBM i release level as far as I can see, so presumably it means IBM 6.1, 6.1.1, or 7.1.
