Become Omni-Potent With Your IBM i Skills

There’s no mistaking the vibe that is picked up by conference attendees. I don’t want to overstate this and make it sound like walking into a conference is a life-changing moment, but there is something that fuels creativity and ambitions when you escape the daily IT department environs and learn something new. Being in a roomful of people who are sharing the same vibe adds to the feeling. It’s a feeling that not enough people are getting in this era of nervously holding the IT reins too tightly. If you are in the Greater Chicago area, you have an opportunity to get out, experience something new, learn something that you can take back to the shop with you, and actually feel good about what you’ve accomplished. It’s time for the annual Omni User Technical Conference. This one-day event brings an all-star cast of subject matter experts and speakers who take training and education very seriously. One thing for certain, you can spend a lot more and get a lot less. With speakers like Susan Gantner, Jon Paris, Mike Pavlak, Steve Will, Larry Bolhuis, and Susan Baker, the quality of content is as good as any conference delivers. The session selection includes plenty of programming topics that include RPG, PHP, SQL, and application modernization; database modernization; the IBM i roadmap business advantages; operating system upgrade advice; storage options; and Power7 server and PureFlex systems choices. There’s also a vendor expo for a view of the latest developments from the software community. You can learn a thing or two there, too. Take a look at the session agenda by following this link. There are sessions for programmers, for analysts, for system administrators, and for IT management. When you can get high quality content delivered close to home at a very reasonable price, it seems like a no-brainer decision compared to long-distance traveling or missing out on a great training opportunity by working in the equivalent of an IT cave. Early registration fee discounts can be had by those who sign up before September 13. And local user group membership discounts are available to not only the Omni user group, but also the members of MUGNI (Northern Illinois), WMCPA (Wisconsin), QUSER (Minnesota), SEMIUG (Southeast Michigan), and Gateway/400 (St. Louis). The conference is being held at the IBM Business Continuity and Resiliency Services center in the northwest Chicago suburb of Schaumburg.
